Project Description
|
This assignment was a genetics WebQuest that I created for a masters level technology class. The WebQuest required students to work both together and individually investigating controversial issues involving genetic engineering and manipulation. Students first studied basic Mendelian genetic principles. Following this activity, students were involved in six hands-on stations for two days applying genetic principles. I used this activity to extend concepts as well as introduce students to issues of today and possibilities of tomorrow. Students were challenged to interpret and synthesize information from the sites and form opinions based on their research.
Additionally, students enhanced their technology skills by creating Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. The PowerPoint presentations were presented to the class as a culminating activity for this assignment. The rubric was used to score students, and the assignment counted as a project grade. (Note: I included the use of SC Streamline videos at appropriate times during the WebQuest.) |

Teacher Tips | Students were shown the rubric at the introduction of the WebQuest and were able to access it throughout to ensure they were meeting criteria. |
