    Making quality adaptations for children with disabilities

Application of the law
Demonstrates a basic understanding of the law through physically safe lesson plan modifications
Demonstrates a proficient ability to include both physical and emotional safety components into lesson plan modifications
Demonstrates an advanced ability to include physical and emotional safety components in lesson plans. This includes specific interests of the child and consult with paraprofessional, parent, and or Adapted PE specialist
Philosophy
Demonstrates a basic understanding of the importance of physical and emotional safety through the provision of simple modifications to allow parallel play participation
Demonstrates a proficient ability to maintain physical and emotional safety through modification of one or more of the four strategies to allow participation with the group
Demonstrates an advanced ability to maintain physical and emotional safety through application of the four strategies. This should not only challenge the child, but improve the competence and confidence in the skills practiced
Knowledge of disability
Demonstrates a basic understanding of the disability through sensible accomodations that match the needs of the child
Demonstrates a proficient ability to modify activities safely and effectively through one or more applications of the four strategies
Demonstrates an advanced ability to modify activities safely and effectively while utilizing creativity in at least two of the four strategies
Purpose
Demonstrates a basic understanding of the purpose of the lesson by providing realistic and achieveable modifications
Demonstrates a proficient ability to include age appropriate modifications that incorporate skills practiced in the original lesson
Demonstrates and advanced ability to incorporate original lesson skills, are age appropriate, and challenge the child at his/her level
Interest of student
Demonstrates a basic understanding of the interest of the child by incorporating an activity that they enjoy into the lesson
Demonstrates a proficient understanding of the interest of the child by allowing them to have choices in the incorporation of preferred activities
Demonstrates and advanced understanding of the interest of the child by incorporating the parents, child, and paraprofessional
Realistic challenge
Demonstrates a basic understanding of making adaptations by providing an activity that they can perform
Demonstartes a proficient understanding of making adaptations by providing activities that are possible and challenging
Demonstrates n adavanced understanding of making adaptations by providing activities that are realistic, challenging, and enjoyable to the student
