Project Description
|
Day 1
We read a couple of stories about Paul Bunyan
and Babe the Blue Ox.
We discussed exaggeration, metaphors and
similes.
Homework: The students individually made up a hero,
described his/her appearance, his/her
larger-than-life abilities and his/her amazing
deeds. This hero was to solve a problem in a
very amazing way.
Day 2
The students were put in groups of three
where they bounced their ideas off one another,
making suggestions for each other.
Revise the content of the tall tale if
necessary.
Homework: Practice telling it in front of a
mirror.
Day 3
Share the tall tale with the class.

Teacher Tips | We are now in the process of writing a tall tale. I plan to make a rubric for that one also. I do enjoy using the rubrics from your site as a springboard. I would probably add something to the rubric about the way they stand (no swaying, shifting feet, etc.) in addition to eye contact.
