Project Description
|
Students worked in groups of three to compose a satirical poem in Chaucerian style based on the same form and content as Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Each student contributed one "pilgrim" to the poem which was a "type" representative of a group at their school. The students had to write their own version of the West Brook (our high school's name) Tales. The poem must somehow tie these three students together in a situation which they explain in their Prologue.

Teacher Tips | I think it was a very successful assignment. I would make the guidelines more specific on how they should be mildly abrasive, not bitterly sarcastic in their satirical poems. Also, I would make sure they understood they could not satirize someone in that class period.
