Project Description
|
The purpose of the poetry unit was to present an opportunity for sixth grade students to read exemplary works of poetry and to apply creative thinking skills to the written language. Students were guided through poetic imagery and analysis by offering them opportunities to experiment with words and novel approaches to projecting ideas to the reader. During this five week unit, the use of rhyme was prohibited. While the students initially were distressed about not rhyming, they realized a greater freedom of thought and less pressure. As a result, students have been amazed at the sheer power of words.
